Black Copper Marans
These are those DARK CHOCOLATE COLORED EGG layers. Julia Child was said to cook only with them, and James Bond famously preferred them! These are truly SPECIAL chickens that lay exceptional eggs.
The Marans breed originated from the port city of Marans, France. Although prized for their dark egg color, they are also big bodied DUAL PURPOSE birds.
My Marans have calm, no-nonsense dispositions. I have never had a Marans rooster be aggressive towards people, or their hens. The hens are good layers of BIG, DARK EGGS (with thick shells). They are more impressive in person than in pictures, and often will be your friendliest birds in a mixed flock.
Our goal is to select breeding stock that only lays the darkest chocolate eggs, while also striving to meet the “Standard Of Perfection” for the Marans breed.
