Appenzeller Spitzhauben are SUPER CUTE, QUIRKY, and FUN chickens. They are one of my favorites for numerous reasons….. They are friendly, inquisitive, and flashy looking. They are also great producers of LOTS of white eggs.

This is a breed we are focusing on in 2024. I have gone through lots of grow outs, and feel great about the breeders I have chosen for this upcoming year. I have focused on health and vigor, the breeds Standard of Perfection, and last but not least temperment!

Spitzhauben are native to Switzerland, and listed as 'threatened' by the Livestock Conservancy, and as a result, are of interest to both breed conservationists and backyard chicken owners alike.

Spitzhauben are considered cold hardy and are able to handle warmer temperatures as well. They are excellent foragers and free range well, because they stay alert to danger and can move quickly. But they also do well in confined situations. They get along well with other breeds, and are typically at the bottom end of the pecking order.
